WATER VALLEY - Organizers of the 44th annual Terry Fox Run in Water Valley hope the Sept. 15 event will raise at least as much as last year, when $8,400 was brought in.

Longtime local run organizer and coordinator Mary Thomson is encouraging residents and visitors to come out for the cancer research and survivor support event.

“This year’s theme of ‘No Matter What’ on the navy blue T-shirts is one that rings true to our Run as we have always gone rain or shine with our faithful followers coming together with family and friends,” said Thomson.

The Water Valley event starts with registration at 8:30 am and run itself begins at 9 am until 1 pm at the Water Valley Wellness Center, located in the Old Water Valley School.

“From that point participants can walk north to the Bear Ridge Estate turnoff and then back south to the Water Valley Golf course road and back to the start is a full 10 kilometres, and participants can choose their own route,” she said.

In order to keep children and pets safe on route the Water Valley EMT’s patrol the route to slow traffic, she said.

“Signage is out to make traffic aware as well,” she said. “At each end there is a water station.  Refreshments provided with hot dogs and goodies and everyone is welcome to drop by to make a donation and share in the camaraderie of the day.

“The memorial poster is there to pay tribute to everyone we are honouring.”

Some T-shirts will be available for sale at the run and at a table at the Cremona Show and Shine Sept. 8th in Cremona.

“If you see a poster you can scan the code and the donation is credited to the Water Valley Run AB1188.  We encourage Teams from businesses and families to top our last year’s total of over $8200.”
