MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A fire advisory went into effect for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Protection Area Monday, due to hot and dry conditions.
Portions of Mountain View County are located in the provincial forest protection area.
The wildfire danger across the Rocky Mountain House Forest Protection Area is very high, the July 8 advisory said.
The Rocky Mountain House Forest Protection Area is currently under a heat warning due to forecasted extremely hot temperatures, which heightens the risk of wildfires.
Under this advisory:
• Existing fire permits are valid, but extension requests may not be granted. Permit holders must follow the safe burning conditions outlined on the fire permit.
• New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, for essential burning only.
• Allowed are safe wood campfires, backyard fire pits, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues and catalytic or infrared-style heaters.
• Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire is prohibited.
The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.
There are currently no active wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Protection Area.
Since January 1, 2024, there have been 39 wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Protection Area, which have burned 6.28 hectares.
