DUNEDIN, Fla. — Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer will be out for the foreseeable future with a right quadriceps strain.
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said before his team's season debut at its temporary home base of Dunedin that Springer has a “low-grade” strain and isn't expected to appear in Toronto's four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels.
Springer, who signed a six-year, US$150-million deal with Toronto in the off-season, has yet to make his Blue Jays regular-season debut.
An oblique injury kept him out of Toronto's six-game season opening road trip against the New York Yankees and Texas.
Springer was eligible to come off the 10-day injured list Thursday, but his recovery suffered a setback when he felt tightness in his right quadriceps while running the bases Tuesday and went for an MRI.
