1946 – 2024
Mr. Wayne Baumgardt passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the Red Deer Regional Health Centre at the age of 78 years.
Wayne was born in Innisfail, Alberta on January 24, 1946. He was the third of four children to Emil and Delia Baumgardt. Wayne was raised on the family farm, east of Innisfail in the Pine Lake area. He took his schooling in Elnora, Alberta. Wayne had to ride a horse to school and hated it. The horse usually headed back home on its own and the boys would have to walk home. He hated horseback riding after that.
Wayne was a self-employed floor covering mechanic for forty-three years. When he first started out in 1968, he did everything, carpet, which had to be sown together by hand, lino, vinyl, tile, ceramic tile and formica. As the years advanced and specialized in some of the products, he just did carpet, lino and the odd hardwood floor.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No 104. In Innisfail, Alberta and received his twenty-five-year associate pin in 2023. Wayne loved to hunt and fish and did his fair share of catching fish and bagging his deer. He loved playing cards with family and friends. Wayne was in the shuffleboard league and dart league at the legion. He also represented the legion at the Hay River NWT for the provincial crib league tournament.
Wayne is lovingly remembered by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Darlene Baumgardt, his daughter, Stacey (Dave) Little, and his son, Kevin Baumgardt, his grandchildren, Christian, Kassidy, Serenity and Atira. He will also be deeply missed by his brothers, Clifford (Arlene), Marvin (Marion), his sister, Patsy, sister-in-law, Marie Pedersen and brother-in-law, Harry (Linda) Henderson and Pat (Marilyn) Henderson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Emil and Delia Baumgardt, and his father and mother-in-law, Frank and Shirley Henderson and brother-in-law Vernon Pedersen.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Heartland Funeral Services Chapel, 4415 49 Street, Innisfail, Alberta.
