1949-2022
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mitchell on July 12th, 2022 at the Rocky Hospital, with family by his side. Mitchell struggled a long battle with C.O.P.D.
Mitchell was born to Angus and Audrey Cruickshank on November 21st 1949 at the Red Deer Hospital. Mitchell was raised on the family farm east of Spruceview, he attended grades one and two at the Heckla school, grades three and four at the Dickson School, and five-12 at Spruceview School, graduating in 1967. Upon completion of high school Mitchell went to the Northern Yukon, where he worked seismograph for a few years. He later worked on the drilling rigs when not working on the family farm up to the spring of 1980, he then purchased a farm just east of Caroline where he raised Simmental/Charolais cross cattle.
In 1999 Mitchell moved north of Sangudo expanding the farm but a back injury caused him to give up farming in 2002. After Mitchell permitted seismograph and then later became a land agent. In May 2004 Mitchell purchased a beautiful acreage west of Caroline where he remained the rest of his life. Mitchell was an avid hunter, fisherman, and spent a lot of time hunting sheep and elk in the South Ram and Ya Ha Tinda in his earlier days. Mitchell’s favorite sports were hockey, baseball and rodeo (especially saddle bronc riding). Mitchell was a dedicated loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Cubs. Mitchell was known for his sense of humour, easy going personality, compassion for others, big heart, smile, storytelling abilities, and taking pride in the things he owned and did throughout his life.
Mitchell is survived by son Gary (Lacey) and his Niece and Nephews and their children
Was pre-deceased by Parents Audrey and Angus, sister Betty, brothers Glen and Bob, brother in-law Ed, nephew Kenny, and Gary’s Mother Jackie.
The family would like to give a heart filled thanks to all of the friends, neighbors, and the Rocky Hospital staff who helped during Mitchell’s battle. We know we’re going to miss frequent chats about things such as the weather, cattle prices, crops and rodeo results by phone, a message, or at the table while having a coffee or perhaps even a rum and pepsi.
A celebration of life will be decided at a later date.
