1918 – 2024
Mrs. Mary Edith Cuthbert (née Beatty) of Innisfail, Alberta, passed away peacefully at Olds Long Term Care on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the remarkable age of 106.
Born on January 11, 1918, in Lake Saskatoon, Alberta, Mary lived a life filled with love, dedication, and adventure. She married Harvey Cuthbert in 1942, and together they began their life in Spirit River, Alberta. It was there that Mary launched her teaching career, with positions in Penhold, Innisfail, and Carstairs, where she eventually retired in 1979.
After her retirement, Mary and Harvey settled in Innisfail, which remained their home. A proud member of the Eastern Star for over seventy years, Mary was also deeply involved in her community. She volunteered with Cubs and Scouts, CGIT, JWES, Christine’s elementary school, and held multiple roles at the Innisfail Health Care Centre, where she was recognized for her years of service.
Mary had a true passion for life—whether she was tending to her garden, exploring new places, or enjoying a game of Bridge or Scrabble, she was always finding joy in the little things.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and is fondly remembered by her children, Bill Cuthbert, Patricia Cuthbert, and Barbara (Bob Bryan) Belanger; her grandchildren, Todd (Kaitlan Power) Madsen, Paula (James) Anderson, Christine Cuthbert, and Erin (Owen) Bugbee; and her great-grandchildren, Spencer, Zach (Jessica), Kiye, Jacob, Anna, Aeson, Stone, and Stihl.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harvey, her parents, Ross and Lucille Beatty, her siblings, Reg Beatty, Nell Day, and Jean Belanger, her daughter-in-law, Linda Cuthbert, and her grandchildren, Christopher and Ben, along with many cherished family members and friends.
