1959 - 2024
It is with great sadness the family of Brenda announces her passing on March 27, 2024, at the age of 64. Brenda is lovingly remembered by her husband of 26 years, Doug. Brenda is also survived by her mother Bea, of Devon; sister Christine EVANS (Shawn) of Tappen, BC; Brother-in-Law Mark SERVOLD of Devon; nieces Erica ( Matt ) of Edson, Mandi ( Cody ) of Trail, BC, and Megan ( Mario ) of Kamloops, BC; and nephew Matt ( Ashley ) of Spruce Grove. Brenda was predeceased by her father, Fred, in 2010 and sister Connie, in 2018.
Brenda was born on April 9, 1959, in Halifax, NS. Brenda was the oldest daughter of Frederick (Fred) and Beulah (Bea) EVANS. As Fred was in the Navy, the family moved to various locations: Ottawa, Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit), Moncton, Ladner (Delta), Bermuda and Inuvik before Fred retired to Devon.
Brenda completed High School in Devon before entering the Nursing program at the Alberta Vocational Centre (Norquest College). Upon graduating as an LPN/RNA Brenda joined her mother at the Devon Hospital. In 1984 Brenda moved to Fox Creek, AB to work in the new Hospital there, making many friends.
In 1997 Brenda met Doug, a new RCMP member posted to the community. After a whirlwind romance the couple eloped in the fall, honeymooning across the west by train.
In 2004 Doug was transferred to Innisfail, AB. Brenda no longer wished to work in a hospital setting, and for the next 10 years, enjoyed her employment as an HCA. Brenda preferred the more social aspect of the one-on-one individual care.
In 2015 Doug accepted a transfer to Leduc. He and Brenda purchased and renovated a house in Devon to allow Brenda's now widowed mother to move in with them. Brenda maintained part time employment at the local Independent Grocer over the winter but would work full time in the Garden Centre in the Spring, Summer.
Earlier this year Brenda was diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 cancer. As per Brenda's wishes, she was kept at home as long as possible. Brenda's sister Christine rushed to be by her side, and along with Bea, to take charge around the house. Brenda passed at her residence with grace and dignity, while being held in the arms of Doug, with calm, warm words of love and reassurance.
Brenda's wishes for no service and to be cremated will be respected. A private family gathering at a later date will be held to spread her ashes. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local animal shelter/rescue would be appreciated.
