1933-2024

It is with profound sadness that the family of John Frederick Edwards announces his passing on Monday,February 5th, 2024 at the age of 90 years. John passed peacefully surrounded by his loving wife of 67 years, Edna and their three sons, Gary, Don and Grant.

John was born on June 10th, 1933 near Carstairs, Alberta where he later met Edna ( Bales), marrying in April of 1957. Purchasing land in the Westcott area, they started a dairy business and raised their family. They continued to expand and improve the dairy operations until it was sold in 2015. Throughout the many years of farming John's true passion was to work the land and spent countless hours on the tractors and combine. He started in the early morning hours and was often the last to leave the tractor at days end. He was a proud man and loved to talk farming, family and politics!

In his youth John was very competitive in hockey and baseball. He was also an avid curler and enjoyed playing until recent years. Passing his love of sports to his sons, John would be the first to volunteer as a coach or umpire.

John and Edna had many memorable vacations and trail rides with family and friends. The trip to his homeland of Wales and the Beaches of Normandy, where his uncles fought in World War II, was talked about frequently.

In 2015 John and Edna moved to Didsbury where he shared jokes and stories with his "coffee shop boys." Never formally retiring from farming, John drove his little dodge truck to the farm daily to help with chores and field work. Time shared with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren brought pure joy to his life.

John is lovingly remembered by his wife, Edna; sons, Gary (Corrina), Don (Judy), and Grant (Kathy); sister, Linda (Wayne); and brother, Dale (Dolly); nieces and nephews; as well as ten grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

John was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Eva; sisters, Betty and Judy; and brother, Robert.

John will always be remembered for his sense of humor and hearty laugh. He was loved by everyone he met and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nursing staff for the exceptional care John received while at the Olds Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alberta Childrens Hospital Foundation, 28 Oki Drive NW, Calgary, AB T3B 6A8. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.

Messages of condolence for the family may be left at www.prairierosefunerals.ca
