Sept. 22/22 `Had a good night. It's sunny out and I feel a bit better then yesterday. And...today I had "Happy Tears"... I went to join Dad in Paradise!' This is how we imagine the last entry in Mom's daily journal would have read.
Emma was born July 19,1937 and it is with heavy hearts and loving memories we announce our dear Mom, Grandma and Oma left us Sept 22,2022 and is now walking hand-in-hand, for eternity with Dad, in their heavenly home.
Mom, the 2'd oldest of 6 siblings, was born to Hans and Lina Grauwickel and spent her youth in Zweibrucken, Germany. She had many memories of the war-torn years but was guarded about sharing them with us. Mom said she and her sister woke up one morning to find a Canadian sleeping on their couch. They were perplexed by this and found it shocking when they realized that not only did he look "normal", but that he even laughed just like they did! Little did she know that on May 21/55 she would end up marrying this handsome member of the RCAF, our Dad, Raymond Ehrmann. He would take her hand, bring her back to Canada and there they would have the privilege of spending over 66 years together.
Mom learned English and became a Canadian citizen once here. A love of sports and devoted fan of all Canadian athletes and teams helped show where Mom's true flag flew.
She and Dad raised their 3 children in Wimborne, which they called home from 1961-2007, at that point retiring to Olds. Besides a housewife, Mom also worked as Postmistress at Wimborne from 1968-1994.
Mom was known for her "Happy Tears" which flowed from her loving eyes often. Mom loved to knit and took delight in giving sweaters, mitts, toques, blankets, etc. to all her family. Each of the great-grandchildren received a knitted baptismal gown from Oma as a tribute to her faith. Spending time with the coffee crowd and visiting with family and friends was also important to Mom, and you can bet that if you stopped to say hi on the street, had coffee with, went somewhere with, played cards with, called to say hello or had any interaction with her, you were in her daily journals, which she had kept for many years. Mom was a member of the Wimborne Ladies Club, Trinity LWML and a communicate member of Trinity Lutheran, Torrington.
All 4 remaining siblings, their spouses and a niece came to Canada to celebrate her 85th birthday with us this July. There was much love, sharing, hugs and happy tears during this reunion.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly cherished by Ruben (Leslie), Susan (Dean Hastie) and Ken (Patsy), 8 grandchildren, their spouses and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of loving family members and friends in Canada, USA and abroad. "These are Happy Tears..."
