1936 – 2022
Mr. Gordon Raymond Fee was born In Grand Forks, British Columbia on May 22, 1936, the youngest child in a family of six.
He attended school in Grand Forks, then moved to Vancouver to apprentice as a heavy duty mechanic at Canadian Kenworth. After receiving his certificate as a journeyman mechanic, he was transferred to the Kenworth Branch in Calgary.
It was in Calgary that he met and married Pearl Reber. Their two children, Jeffrey and Jodi, were born in Calgary. Gordon became a partner in the Hayes Truck dealership in Calgary, in 1964. After selling his interest in the dealership, Gordon and the family moved around Alberta and British Columbia, until an opportunity to invest in a Peterbilt dealership offered him the opportunity to be a business owner again. Following this adventure, Gordon rejoined the Kenworth family in Calgary, and in 1982, he was offered the position of manager at the Kenworth branch in Grande Prairie.
He worked as the manager of that branch until 1988, when he, along with partner, Jim Wald, purchased Swan Buses. For the next ten years, he operated the bus company, moving students around the City of Grande Prairie and area, and transporting minor hockey teams to league games in Alberta and British Columbia. In 1998, Swan Buses was sold to Cardinal Coach Lines, and Gordon and Pearl retired to an acreage near La Glace, Alberta. For the next twelve years, they enjoyed country living and became involved in the community, volunteering for the La Glace Ag Society, and curling at the La Glace Curling Club. Summers were spent traveling around Alberta and British Columbia in their pickup and fifth wheel trailer; and winters often meant a leisurely cruise in the Caribbean, or down the Pacific coast.
In 2013, they moved to Innisfail, where they have since resided. Earlier this year, his health declined rapidly, and Gordon spent several weeks in hospital in Innisfail. He was admitted to The Seasons in Olds on November 24, and passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022. Gordon was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Club, and the Rotary Club in Grande Prairie, and Innisfail. Gordon enjoyed golfing, hunting and traveling. His family meant everything to him, and nothing pleased him more than to have his family gathered around him to celebrate birthdays, reunions, and holidays.
Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Pearl, his son, Jeff (Cheryle) of Rocky Mountain House, his daughter, Jodi of Calgary, his granddaughter, Amber Mercier (Mike) of Edmonton and his great granddaughter, Madeleine, as well as many nieces and nephews and good friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and five siblings.
A Memorial Service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 4027 – 48 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Art Weiss officiating.
