John Christian Folkmann Jr. was born in January 1931 in Didsbury, Alberta. He was raised on a farm west of town. John was baptized, confirmed and attended Young Peoples at Redeemer Lutheran Church. It was there he met the love of his life, Beatrice.
They were married December 3, 1952. John and Beatrice moved east of Torrington, where they farmed for over 60 years. John contributed a great deal to the community. He belonged to the Odds and Ends square dance club, the Big Game Trophy Club and Torrington Community Hall, and served as an elder at Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved farming and livestock, was an avid fisherman, and later in life took up woodworking.
John passed away on December 22, 2020 at Aspen Lodge Didsbury at the age of 89.
He will be deeply missed but so lovingly remembered by sons Gerald (Darlene), Lyle (Laura) and Keith (Angie); daughter Sherry (Marc); 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Joy; brother Bob and other family and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, wife, and son Terry. A memorial service will be held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Didsbury, Alberta, on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
