1946 – 2024
Sandra Fay Gerrard (Nee Krause) passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Innisfail Health Centre with her children by her side after a courageous battle with COPD at the age of 78 years.
Mom asked that we write a short and sweet obituary and not ramble on so we will try and sum up her 78 years of living in as few words as possible. She was born in Innisfail on July 12, 1946, to Phyllis and Otto Krause. Her early years were marked by significant challenges caring for her terminally ill mother. This experience led her to be compassionate and caring to all.
Mom married Lorne Gerrard on June 20th, 1969, and had two children, Tammy and Mike. Her and Dad were married for fifty-four years. They spent many years on the farm then moved to town where Mom worked various jobs and made many friends. Mom especially loved her time at Value Drug Mart but her last job at the Associate Clinic was her favorite. She loved her coworkers and still got together with a few of them on a regular basis.
Mom had a quick sharp wit and loved to joke with people. She especially loved to pick on her sister-in-law, Marie. Mom was a bit of an introvert but once she got out, she would love to visit. She loved planting flowers, shopping online, country music and visits from her grandchildren and her favorite grand dog, Luna. Mom loved her children, grandchildren, siblings, relatives, many in-laws and friends. Known for her friendly and kind manner she was well loved in the community and set a great example for her family on how to treat people.
A few days before Mom’s passing, she had many visits from family and friends and said she was happy to have such a wonderful impromptu final farewell party. She asked us all what we thought of her and words like funny, thoughtful, kind, brave, friendly and beautiful came up. She was a great Mom and we will miss her terribly.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Tammy (Jamie), and their children, Colin, Kati (Shawn) and Jenna, her son, Mike (Brenda) and their children, Sarah (Matt) and Tyson (Sammi), her brother, Terry (Marie), her sister, Doreen MacKenzie and numerous relatives and in laws. In keeping with Moms wishes a Funeral Service will not be held.
