April 24, 1922- October 24, 2019
Glen was born to Stanley and Margaret Munro on April 24, 1922 in Ardley, Alberta where they farmed. At age twenty he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served for four years in the tractor operations group. He was recently acknowledged as a local veteran in a ceremony at the Didsbury Museum. We as a family are so honored and proud to see his banner displayed on a light post as you enter town — in front of the hospital parking lot.
He met Mom while she was working at the same Sweet Shop as his sister worked in Red Deer. They married and built their home on their farm where they lived for a few years before moving to Red Deer for two years. Dad had taken a welding course and McKee Harvester gave him a sales district which he started in Didsbury. This is where they raised five children and celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage. He earned his pilots license and enjoyed flying his small planes to many Fly-In breakfasts. He would always take family and friends as passengers. While operating Munro Sales and Service, he manufactured the Munro Tandem Tractor Hitch. A unique system to hook two tractors together for more pulling power. Approx. 90 were built and delivered across Canada. He was a help to many farmers who needed a quick repair and a willing teacher to anyone with a mechanical question. He enjoyed wood working and he and Mom enjoyed travelling together.
They were always interested in their children's and grand-children's lives. After no longer being able to manage in their home, they had a short stay at the Sundre Lodge before moving to Bethany Didsbury. Dad passed away October 24, 2019 at the age of 97. The care of the staff there was so much appreciated. He leaves to mourn Paddy (Irene) of Sundre, Donna Munro of Didsbury, Connie (Doug) of Didsbury, Kerry (Linda) of Carstairs and Barb Archer of Didsbury, 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren.
