It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Levonne (Wiper) Goddard on October 5, 2021 at the age of 88 years.
Joan was born to parents John (Jack) Lewis Wiper and Edith Mae (Thompson) Wiper.
She grew up on the family farm at Harmattan, Alberta.
As a child she attended Sunshine Sunday School at Harmattan, which was operated by her Grandfather John and Grandmother Emily.
Received her first guitar as a gift at age 14 which she learned to play.
She sang hymns and country music songs.
Played music by ear, played the guitar, organ, piano, accordion, and harmonica.
She was very proficient at the recitation of poetry.
At 16, went to work for Dutch and Hazel Ross, then Jack and Winnie Morgan and family in Sundre.
She later worked as a waitress in Mrs. Joyce’s café in Olds, and Ed Saterswait’s café in Sundre.
In the late 1950’s, became Assistant Cook with Martha Reid (Head Cook) at Olds Hospital.
It was during her time working at Olds Hospital that she met her future husband, Myrl Goddard, who delivered groceries to the Hospital Kitchen
She married Myrl January 16, 1959.
Twin sons Dale John and Douglas Floyd were born April 28, 1959.
She was a homemaker her entire married life, raising her children, and pursuing her love of baking many cakes, pies, cookies and other desserts, and raising many cats and kittens.
Mom was known for her hospitality, always serving a drink and some baking to anyone visiting.
In 1981, she was baptized into the Olds Seventh-day Adventist Church by Pastor Bill Wigley, and faithfully served the Lord Jesus for many years.
In 1983 she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
For almost forty years she fought a courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased by her husband Myrl five months earlier (May 14, 2021), parents Jack Wiper and Edith Wiper, sister Renee.
Survived by sons Dale and Doug, grandchildren Daniel Goddard (North Vancouver), Jane Cummins (Steve), and great-granddaughter Mallory (Bergen).
Joan is survived by her sister Kay (Edmonton), and Brother Bill (Geraldine) Olds, and numerous nephews and nieces.
She had many friends and touched the lives of everyone she knew and will be sadly missed.
Joan is at peace and rest waiting for the blessed resurrection morning when Jesus will return to take all of His children home.
