It is with great sadness that the family of Nola Godwin announces her passing on August 26, 2020 at the age of 86. Nola will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Laura, Hugh (Maxine), Neil (Jennifer), and Karen (Eric). She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Brett (Heidi), Nora (Stephen), Katelyn (Darcy), Jenna, Rachel (Matthew), Ben (Grace) and Jonah as well as her dearly loved great-grandson, Theo. She will be remembered by her sister Doris Tipper, sisters-in-law Jean Driver and Yvonne Godwin, her nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Nola was predeceased by her beloved husband Buck in 2008.
Nola was born in Tofield, Alberta and later moved to Edmonton to study X-ray technology where she received her diploma in 1954 at the University of Alberta Hospital. She met Buck at a 4H meeting at the university where he was studying agriculture and they married in 1955. Their first home was in Fairview, then they moved to Vermilion (1958 – 1963), and finally settled in Olds in 1963 where they raised their family. After finishing her work as a nursery school teacher and Buck’s retirement from teaching at Olds College, they established their floral business, Alberta Supernaturals, where they continued to open their farm, home, and hearts to students, colleagues, customers, neighbours, friends and family. Nola was a talented cook, seamstress, and gardener. She loved her family, friends, music, playing cards, ice-cream and hated anything sour. She will be remembered for her leadership in the family and community, her lemon tarts, her ability to make each of us feel special, and her wonderful sense of humour.
She will be interred at a private service with her immediate family and a celebration of her life may occur when a gathering can be safely held in the community.
