1936-2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Keith Hamilton. Keith passed away at the Didsbury Hospital on September 18, 2022, at 86 years of age with his family by his side.

Keith is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eileen; daughter Katherine (Don) Clague; daughter-in-law Heather Hamilton (Art Cox); grandchildren Kevin (Brittany) Hamilton, Brendan Hamilton, Callum and Olivia Clague; great granddaughters Avery and Piper Hamilton and chosen family Terry and Donna Aarsby and Kevin and Nadia Palko.

Keith was born on the family farm in the Woodleigh District, Saskatchewan on September 2, 1936.  He was the youngest of 7 siblings.  After high school Keith worked for the Department of Highways in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.  In 1956 he joined Imperial Oil in Smiley, Saskatchewan, starting a 45-year career in the oil and gas industry. It was in Smiley that Keith met Eileen. He worked for New Continental and Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas in Kindersley, and then moved to postings in Cessford and Valleyview. When the opportunity appeared to help start up the new Lone Pine Creek Gas Plant for Canadian Superior (later Mobil Oil Canada). Keith moved his family to Carstairs in 1971. He early retired as Superintendent in 1992. Keith then formed his own consulting company, working until 2000 in the Three Hills area.

He is predeceased by his son Kevin; parents Wes and Reta Hamilton; brothers Bert, Russ and Clarence; sisters Rella, Fay and Shirley; father and mother-in-law Art and Fran Dorsett and brother-in-law Ken Dorsett.

In June 2001, Keith was struck with some major medical challenges. Despite this, he remained an unwavering optimist with a positive outlook on life, attributes of a true Saskatchewan Roughrider fan.

Keith loved to travel after his retirement, going on 8 cruises and spending time during the winter months in California.  During his 51 years in the community, he was actively involved in managing his son’s hockey teams, being a Lodge Lifetime Member of the Carstairs Elks and was a member of the Carstairs Curling Club, the United Church and the Royal Canadian Legion.

In keeping with Keith’s wishes, a private family service will be held on October 10th at the Bancroft United Church in Carstairs.  Following the private family service, a public Open House Celebration will be held at the Carstairs Community Hall from 1-4 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made directly to a charity of choice. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Didsbury entrusted with arrangements. 403-335-4773. Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com.
