Dorothy was born on a homestead West of Loon Lake SK .

She grew up on the farm and eventually made her way to Williams Lake B.C. where she became a nurses aid at the hospital. In 1955 she moved to Fernie BC to carry on her nurses aid duties. There she met a young Mountie named Allen Hansen and they were married at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral in Kamloops BC. Oct. 24, 1959.

Allan and Dorothy made many moves throughout BC and in 1970 ventured to the NW and Yukon Territories. which included Ft McPherson, Inuvik NWT then Watson Lake and Whitehorse in the Yukon. The last transfer took them back to Inuvik where Al retired from the R.C.M.P in 1982, and the last move led them to their forever home in Didsbury AB.

Dorothy lived fully for her family was an avid gardener and floral designer. Dorothy had the most beautiful garden, her passions also included being a wonderful curler, ballplayer and dancer.

After a lengthy battle with more than one illness Dorothy passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Left to mourn Allan (husband), her children Charlene (Dan), Brian (Valerie), grandchildren Shayne, Jestice, Leah, Fynn, Dane and Lily. Also, sister Donna.

She is predeceased her by son David in 1990 (member of the Calgary Police Service).

Oct 22, 2022, Reverend Bonnie Luft (family friend) held a small service with family and close friends at Allan and Dorothy’s home where Dorothy's ashes were blessed.

She will forever be in our hearts and was dedicated to her faith, family and friends. May she rest in peace. Any charitable donations, at Dorothy’s request, please be made to STARS Air Ambulance, Alberta SPCA or Calgary Salvation Army or any charity of your choice.
