Alvina passed away on March 5, 2021 at the age of 106 years. In her 106 years she was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and a teacher. Born a prairie farm girl, she pursued her education and became a teacher. She married Wes Hawthorne in 1940 and moved to Olds, where Wes started his watchmaking and jewellery business. By 1946, they had two children, a daughter, Linda and son, Dennis. In 1960, Alvina returned to teaching after retiring from teaching she helped Wes at Hawthorne’s Jewellery.
When they retired they sold the store and travelled extensively. They joined the square dancers and had a marvellous life together. Wes passed away in 1995 and Alvina continued to be active in the community. In 2003, she moved into Season’s Retirement Community where she resided for the rest of her 106 years.
Her lovely personality will be missed by all. A memorial will be held when it is safe to gather. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S Air Ambulance (Alvina’s favourite charity) or charity of choice.
