December 6, 1944 - April 8, 2020
Barbara Alta Hayes of Sundre Alberta passed away peacefully on April 8, 2020 at the age of 75 years.
She was born December 6, 1944 to Carl and Alta Fagan. She was the youngest of 4 children. Barb grew up in the Bearberry area. As a child she had a love for her horses and she won an FCA rodeo buckle for Barrel Racing.
In 1969, after graduating with her Certified Nursing Assistant course, Barb started work at the Sundre Hospital, where she worked for 45 years until her official retirement. Her many accomplishments there included teaching the Candy Strippers Course. She was also on an episode of The Magic School Bus.
In 1995 Barb received the William Grey Award for Outstanding Service to her Profession and Community. She was loved by her family, patients and hospital friends for her no non-sense attitude and exceptional care.
Away from work you would usually find Barb outside doing various activities including horseback riding, riding her quad, or snowmobiling. She also loved to camp, swim and sunbathe, but most of all she loved her garden. Barb had many talents. She crocheted tablecloths and bedspreads, many of which we are sure she made with her eyes closed. Barb was also well known for her sewn jean and fleece quilts that she sold at the Farmers Markets around town.
Later in her career she started her own Foot Care business. This kept her busy, and she enjoyed visiting with her clients.
The best times Barb had were spent with her family and we will cherish those memories forever. Barb is survived by her sons, Elmer and Tracy (Leah). Grandchildren, Jess (Matt), Jamie (Megan), Austin (Haley), Colby (Alyssa) and 5 great grandchildren.
There will be no service at this time. Instead of flowers, donations can be submitted to the Sundre Hospital Futures Committee in Memory of Barbara Alta Hayes
