January 1st, 1933 - January 21st, 2025
Marilyn passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospital at the age of 92, surrounded by her family on Jan. 21st, 2025.
Born to Roy and Norma Smith in Olds, Alberta, Marilyn had 1 brother Bev (deceased) and 1 sister Paulette (Walter) Bentz.
Marilyn attended nursing school from 1951 to 1954 at the Calgary General Hospital. She married Pat Hoschka February 27, 1954 and they farmed east of Olds, where they started their family and raised 4 children.
They later moved to Olds in 1962, where Pat and Marilyn built and opened the first Bowling Alley in 1963. Marilyn did a lot of gardening and either froze or canned everything she grew.
Marilyn worked at the Olds Municipal Hospital as an RN until the late 1970s. Many people will remember her friendly face at the Olds Associated Clinic where she worked until her retirement in 1993. Marilyn could be found snowmobiling out west with the family or watching her 2 boys snowmobile racing in the winters. Lots of camping trips with friends west of Sundre, visits with their children and vacations with her sister Paulette and husband Walter to Hawaii, Arizona and Mexico, kept Pat and Marilyn busy.
Pat and Marilyn lived in Olds in their own home until Pats passing this past Oct. 3rd, 2024. They had been married for 70 years.
Marilyn will be forever remembered and loved by her four children, Deb (Peter) Sanden, Brian (Robynn) Hoschka, Brent Hoschka, Paula (Arla) Horn. 9 Grandchildren, Lindsay, Stephanie, Trisha, Chelsey, Mitch, Jessica, Chad, Drew and Ashley along with 14 Great Grandchildren and her sister Paulette.
A family memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Marilyn’s honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta, #306, 10430 61 Ave. Edmonton, Ab T6H 2J3.
