1944 – 2023
Mr. Alfred ‘Fred’ Thomas Hughes passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the age of 79 years in Innisfail, Alberta.
Alfred was born on August 9, 1944, in Innisfail, Alberta and was a beloved member of the community. He had a fulfilling and diverse career throughout his life. Alfred started as a farmer in Innisfail, Alberta before working in seismic and oil rigs. He later became a guard at the Nordegg Prison and then a lumberjack in the area of Rocky Mountain House.
Alfred’s passion for carpentry led him to get his Journeyman in Carpentry and establish Hughes Construction, where he worked in the Innisfail and Bowden areas. When he wasn’t able due to physical reasons to continue carpentry, Alfred and his wife, Jamie became co-owners of Pen Y Brynn Market Garden, showcasing his skills as a market gardener.
When he wasn’t working, Alfred enjoyed spending time outdoors and pursuing his hobbies of hunting, fishing, and camping. These activities brought him immense joy and allowed him to connect with nature.
Alfred will be lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-three years, Jamie, his sister, Marie, his daughters, Nora (Carl) and Stacy, his son, Clinton as well as his stepchildren, Pamela (Greg), Marty (Pamela) and Annette. He will also be deeply missed by his five granddaughters, two grandsons, one great granddaughter, one great grandson and his four step grandsons, two step granddaughters and one step great granddaughter.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Florence, his sister, Carol, his brother, Dorin (Ann), his step grandson, Zachary as well as his first wife, Marilee.
A Memorial Service for Alfred will be held at the Heartland Funeral Services Chapel, 4415 – 49 Street, Innisfail, Alberta on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Alfred’s honor may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society at alzheimers.ca.
