Jim passed away peacefully at the Royal Alexander Hospital, in Edmonton Alberta, March 17, 2024.
Jim was born Aug 19, 1943 to John A. Hutton, and Lavina (Seebach) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jim moved to Calgary in 1950. Jim’s father passed away when he was 7 and left mother and son to carry on life in Calgary, where Jim completed his high school education and graduated from the University of Calgary “several times” he’d liked to say. His studies included Geology, Psychology and Education.
In Jim’s early 20’s he worked in the field of geology where it cemented a love of rocks and mountains in his heart. He then went on to teach physical education in High River Alberta for 10+ years. After being discontented with the fast paced life in the city and the 9-5 schedule, Jim decided to change to a more simple life on Vancouver Island, taking to boating and enjoying freedom in the mid 1980-90’s.
In semi-retirement, recent interests have included fitness training, swimming, music, fine arts, theology, design, reading, nature, woodworking, boats, mountains, writing and picking rocks to name a few. His love for the land led Jim to buy a small grain farm in the Innisfail area in 1994. Jim was a gentle soul and a farmer at heart.
Jim’s favorite places in Innisfail to visit were the Innisfail Aquatic Centre and the Innisfail Library. Jim would always speak highly about the kind and compassionate staff who welcomed him weekly as well as the many friendships that developed over many years.
Jim is survived by distant relatives, many friends, neighbours, fellow farmers and his church family at the Penhold Church of Hope.
