1935 - 2024

Arthur Henry Jackson was born on May 19th, 1935. He passed away on January 30th, 2024, in Red Deer. Art attended school at Westerdale and then farmed with his father and brother. He loved farming and raising cattle. He retired from farming but remained living on the farm till 2013. Art was an avid sportsman. He also loved hunting and fishing. He played fastball for many years with the Westerdale Braves in the summer and he was the goal tender for the Didsbury Ramblers for many years as well as the Olds Elks for a year. Art also loved to travel and went on a couple of “singles cruises”.

Art met Elsie Whyte in 1974 and they were married on May 24th, 1975.

Elsie loved fishing as much as Art and they were always off fishing and camping.

Art was a very social person, there were many times where they would have dinner parties and late nights, playing cards with their dinner guests. Art introduced Elsie to curling. In the winter they were both found in the local curling rinks. Art had a great sense of humor and found great delight in playing a practical joke or 2. Art was the president of the Olds and District Rural Crime Watch. He oversaw the security for the 1986 World Plow Match which was held at Olds College. He received an award for his years of service to Rural Crime Watch from the RCMP.

Art was predeceased by his parents Harry and Monica (Farrent); his wife Elsie; brothers Donovan, and Robert; sister-in-Law Greta (Kershaw). He is survived by his stepdaughter Joanne Whyte; stepson Jim Whyte (and Tara); grandson Joe Whyte; granddaughter Debby Whyte (Warren), Katelyn Pero (Chris); great grandsons Will and Cody; great granddaughter Emma; his sister Barbra (Don Krebs); brother Rodger (Rosemarie); and many nieces, nephews, and their families as well as many cousins.

The family asks that in lieu of flower donations be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Association of Alberta. A celebration of life for both Art and Elsie as per their wishes will be held at the First Baptist Church in Olds Alberta on May 24th, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds entrusted with arrangements.  Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
