1927 – 2024

Mrs. Jean Weltz formerly of Dickson, passed away peacefully in Mundare, Alberta on September 29, 2024 at the age of 97 years.

Jean was born on the farm in Carstairs, Alberta, July 3, 1927 to parents Hazel and John Rowntree. She met and married Jack Weltz in April, 1950 and moved to Dickson, Alberta in 1958.  Jean taught at Dickson School and then at the Spruce View School where she was a very dedicated teacher and devoted community supporter.  Not only did she teach, she got involved with the students coaching basketball, tutoring and then got involved with Girl Guides temporarily, however that lasted well over thirty years.

Jean was also very involved with Bethany Lutheran Church in Dickson, she taught and sat on the Church Council as well as helped to preserve the heritage of the Dickson Store Museum and the Danish Heritage Society. Jean spent a lifetime serving her community so when Jean was honored as the Spruce View Citizen of the Year in 1997, it was no surprise. Jean eventually moved to Mundare to be with her daughter in 2015 where she lived until her passing.

Jean is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Linda (Doug) Cramer, her granddaughter, Jacqueline (Dan) Opris, her great grandchildren: Vincent, Ezekiel, Ariya and Riley as well as her step grandson, Jesse (Ashley) Cramer, she also leaves behind her brother, Robert (Irene) Rowntree and her sister, Catherine (Don) Hauser.
