1960 – 2022

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Wayne Johnson on October 31, 2022 at the age of 62 after a short and courageous battle with cancer.  John Wayne was born in Salmon Arm, British Columbia.  John's determination and zest for doing things under his own terms started at a young age.  You could not teach him something and not expect him to not try to be the best at it. He was always a social butterfly and had many friends and made friends wherever he went.

John met and married Debra in 1985.  In 1986 they welcomed their first born, Kelsey. John Wayne packed up for “greener pastures” and moved his family to Alberta. After settling in Alberta, John and Debra welcomed 2nd child Kimberly and son Clayton.  His continued dedication to provide for his family pushed him to become an entrepreneur.  His love of selling and his love of a social atmosphere attracted him to becoming an auctioneer in 1993.

Pilgrim Auction was born, courage to push the limits and letting nothing stop him lead him to become one of the most sought-after antique and estate auctioneers in the province.  His enjoyment of social gatherings and standing in front of a crowd allowed him to partake in many charity events around the province.  He was always willing to give his time and presence for a good cause.  He continued to provide a fun, social atmosphere for 30 years, selling some of the rarest items in Western Canada, until Covid forced the auction company to retirement.

He is survived by his wife Debra of 37 years.  Children Kelsey (Tyler) Johnson, Kimberly (Chad) Nielsen, Clayton (Kaylin) Johnson.  Grandchildren Kolton and Malaya.  He is also survived by his extended family members dotted across British Columbia.

Remember John Wayne as the smallest guy in the room with the biggest presence.  He never took life seriously; he loved a good joke and a good time.  He always had a good story to tell and if not something to sell.

A memorial will be announced by the family for a future date.
