May 6, 1931 - September 22, 2022
Marlene was called to rest on September 22, 2022, after a brief illness. She was born May 6, 1931 in Edmonton; beloved daughter of Michael and Martha Fester, sister to Henry and Allan.
At the age of five, her family bought a farm in the Looma Vista District, 28 miles SE of Edmonton. She was united in marriage to Albert Welhelm (Slim) Kallis in 1951, who grew up across the road from her. They were blessed with 4 children. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Estevan, Drumheller, Sundre, and Cessford HBOG camp before their final move to Olds, where Slim worked to his retirement years with Hudson’s Bay Oil & Gas.
Marlene loved being a mother and homemaker. When the children were older, she worked outside the home at Bowden Nurseries, Robb’s Egg Farm, and provided childcare to several neighbourhood children. She was an avid curler and bowler, enjoyed water aerobics and quilting. Marlene and Slim camped and fished, and wintered in Arizona for a number of years.
Marlene will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gail (Wayne) Dick, St. Albert, Valerie (Fred) Salvisberg, Falun, AB, Heather (Dale) Shanks, Medicine Hat; and Albert Kallis, Jr. (Dawn Trussler), Coronation; grandchildren, Monica (Brad) Greiner, Trina (Kelly Axtman) Salvisberg, Wendy (Rory) Perkins, Nicole (Trent) Ashman, Ryan (Victoria) Kallis, Cody (Stephanie) Kallis, Scott Kallis and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, husband, and a beloved grandchild, Kyle Dick.
She will be remembered as a fun loving, kind person, who took great pleasure in making others laugh.
