Frank Earnest Kohut is at peace in heaven after passing away on January 14th, 2022 with his family at his side. He was 75 years old. Frank was born on April 10th, 1946 in Didsbury, Alberta to Jean and Charlie Kohut. He came from a family of 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Frank Kohut is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Gayle Kohut, his daughters Karyn Holuk and Tanya Verquin and his sons Rick Kohut and Billy Kohut. His grandchildren Alexa, Aceson, Alyssa, Ava, Lauren, Evan and Sophia. His brothers and sisters; Louis Kohut, Francis Hanlan, MaryAnn Weigel, Olga Williams, Charlie Alan Kohut, June Simon and Bob Kohut. He was predeceased by his parents Charlie and Jean Kohut.
Frank was a true gentleman who was highly respected in the farming and ranching community. He became intimately involved in the family farm east of Didsbury from a very young age. Frank’s parents helped him develop a true passion for the farm life and taught him the value of hard work from raising premium livestock to learning how to grow quality crops throughout his school years. He eventually took over much of the farm and the 500 cow/calf operation after his father Charlie passed away in 1981. Frank found fulfillment, joy and success in raising a wide variety of livestock over the years including broiler hens, hogs, turkeys, geese, ostriches, sheep and bison, but cattle were always his favorite. Frank raised pure bred Charolais at one point in the ‘80’s and found his groove with a dandy commercial herd for many decades. He developed a strong reputation over the years with his highly sot after bred heifers; so much so that many thought “Kohut” was actually a breed of cattle!
Frank valued his family and heritage in the highest order along with his friends and community. He took pride in his farm in every way. He and Gayle always welcomed anyone and everyone to visit their immaculate, well manicured farm, whether it was to host a wedding, a reunion or just play a game of horseshoes and have a visit. Frank loved to spend time on the farm with his grandchildren giving them horse rides, quad rides and teaching them about the animals, the birds and about nature in general.
Frank was a man of few words, a man whom others trusted and loved, a man who showed his family all the wonderful values of living a life to honor, with dignity, integrity, diligence, and dedication. Frank will rest in peace knowing that he passed on these qualities on to his family and his community. He would be honored in knowing that his legacy of the farm will live on through his family.
The family would like to sincerely thank everyone in Frank’s life. Frank will be deeply missed, but the lessons he has left behind are the gifts that will be appreciated for generations. A private Celebration of Life was held for Frank at the Kohut homestead, where Frank was raised.
