1944 - 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cherry Elyse Kolb on February 13, 2025 at the age of 80 years in the Peter Lougheed Centre, Calgary.
Cherry was born December 27, 1944 to Wilbur and Vivian Spiker in Kinistino, SK. She spent her childhood growing up in Crystal Springs, SK with her 8 siblings. She met and married David Kolb June 23, 1963. Their first son Brent was born in September 1963. In 1964, they moved to Vancouver where Dave worked for Super Valu as a meat supervisor and Cherry at a Dry Cleaners. They welcomed another son Scott in August 1968 and another son whom unfortunately only lived 1 hour after his full term birth due to health complications.
Dave, Cherry and the boys loved their time in Vancouver however an opportunity to own their own IGA grocery store made the next move to Olds in 1976 where they resided for the remainder of their years. They owned & operated the Olds IGA with the whole family was employed there until they sold in 1987. In 1981, they purchased land east of Olds. They built a home there where farming and cattle became a new way of life. Cherry loved her time there where she spent many hours maintaining her yard that was so lush with beautiful flowers, trees and many yard features along with a huge garden she planted every year sharing the bounties with her family. She loved the farm life with harvest being her favorite time of year.
They sold the farm and bought land south of Olds and built a beautiful home. Unfortunately in August of 2017, Dave passed away suddenly before the construction was completed on their new home. This was a huge adjustment for her now on her own but she truly learned to live a satisfying life in his absence.
In August 1987 her first granddaughter was welcomed Ashlee Megan followed by a second grandson in 1992, Dilan. Cherry was a wonderful grandma and loved to spend her time with Ashlee and Dilan playing dressup, baking and spending time outside. In 2015 and 2016, she became a great grandma(gg) to Remmington and Maverick and truly loved this new chapter.
Cherry was truly a fabulous cook and you could be rest assured you would never ever leave hungry. Her pies, cakes, pickles, relishes and her cooking skills for any meal were truly the best!! If you were one of the fortunate to have a meal at their home, in the field or lunch packed by her you know what we mean!!
In December 2023 her health started failing and on February 13 she went to heaven to be reunited with Dave and many others. She will be missed immensely forever and always.
Cherry is survived by her sons Brent(Cindy), Scott; grandchildren Ashlee(David) Dux, Dilan (Tamaira) Kolb; great-grandchildren Remmington & Maverick Kolb; 2 brothers, 2 sisters; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on February 22 at the Olds College Alumni Centre. Interment was held in the Olds Cemetery.
