1933 – 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Gudrun ‘Goodie’ Elizabeth Kure on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 (02/02/2022) at the age of 88 years.
Goodie was born in Innisfail, Alberta on November 6, 1933. She was the younger of two daughters born to Danish immigrant parents, Bertha and Thorvold Jorgensen.
Goodie and her family were involved in Mixed Farming and Purebred Suffolk Sheep Production, which took them Nationally, as well as Internationally. In addition to helping with farmyard chores, raking and bailing hay, and hauling grain, painting buildings, mowing grass, and gardening, she also enjoyed sports and the outdoors; participating notably in slowpitch, fishing, swimming, snowmobiling, and curling.
For over fifteen years, she was a Scouts Canada Cub Leader; where she was involved in canoeing, nature hikes, cub garden inspections, crafting, camping, and of course, campfires. One of Goodies fondest and proudest memories was working for Joyce McCart and starting up Sheep Canada Magazine. Along the way, she also worked for Shell Canada out of Caroline, as a Security Officer during spring shutdowns and repairs. For many years, she also worked for and represented PaSu Farms in their Clothing Department at such events and venues as: Spruce Meadows, Bower Mall, Agri-Trade, Calgary Stampede, Edmonton and other Trade Shows in many Central Alberta towns throughout the year. In all these endeavors, she met many fine people and developed many good long-lasting friendships. As busy as she was, she always made time to drive the boys to and from hockey and other sporting events they were involved in. Later when grandchildren arrived, she could often be seen cheering at hockey games and school sports in which they participated.
In both of her houses in Dickson and Spruce View, she took tremendous pride and delight in working on developing and keeping a nice house and tidy yard, constantly feeding the birds and squirrels. Volunteerism was also important in being involved in the Dickson Store Museum, Danish Canadian National Museum, Church, and Cemetery Committees. Knitting socks, mittens, and sweaters was a favorite winter pastime, as she watched curling and hockey on television….not sure why, but she was actually an Edmonton Oilers fan!
Goodie will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Ken (Shelley) Kure and Brian Kure, her four grandchildren, Ryan (Jackie) Kure, Jade (Jared) Brookes, Taylor Kure, and Trent Kure and her four beloved great grandchildren, Hadley and Presley Brookes and Nash and Pryce Kure. As well, in her small family were her nieces, Janet and Gail Hindbo, her nephew, Don Hindbo and her two cousins, Orla and Phillip Nielsen. Goodie was predeceased by her parents, Thorvold at fifty-two years of age and Bertha at fifty-nine years of age, a sister, Edna Hindbo and a son, Jimmy Hindbo.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and doctors at the Innisfail Health Centre and Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer for their help, care, and support over her final years.
A Public Visitation will be held at Heartland Funeral Services, 4415 – 49 Street, Innisfail, Alberta on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place later in the spring for family and close friends.
