1929 – 2022

Stephen Moti Lall of Carstairs, Alberta passed away Monday, October 10th, 2022 at the age of 93.

Born February 2, 1929, in North Central India, Stephen was the second of nine children born to the Reverend Moti and Mrs. Shanti Lall.  He moved to the United States in 1953 to further his education - first at Huntington College, Indiana then at Cleveland State University for his Master’s degree in the field of Education.  Shortly after meeting and marrying an adventurous lady from Ohio in 1961, he and his new bride immigrated to Alberta, Canada which has been his home ever since. Stephen spent his entire career in education, mostly as a school principal, positively impacting the lives of many hundreds of students over his long career.  He retired in 1994 at the age of 65.

Stephen embraced life as a Canadian, particularly during the winter months when he loved to watch hockey games and cheer loudly for the Calgary Flames.  A passionate gardener, Steve and Joann’s yard was always a riot of colour and his vegetable garden was the envy of many. Stephen also took great joy in entertaining and supporting numerous charities throughout his life, a few of which are mentioned below. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joann; his children, Randy (Nella), Philip, and Pamela (David); his sisters, Snehlata, Sosan, Vidya, Preetam, and Prem; his brother, Santosh; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Unfortunately, due to a COVID resurgence in the community, there will be no formal service.  The family encourages you all to gather in small groups to celebrate his memory. In leiu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Stephen’s memory be made to either The Canadian Red Cross, The Mustard Seed or the Canadian Wildlife Federation, all of which Stephen was a passionate supporter of.
