May 19, 1944- November 8, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Brian Glen Leatherdale announce his sudden passing on the morning of November 8th at the age 78 years.

He will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend of over 58 years Edna Leatherdale and their children; Tammy (Kendal) McNeil , Scott (Sandra) Leatherdale, Tanya (Murray) Schaber, Todd (Kim) Leatherdale and Shawna Leatherdale. One of his greatest joys in his later years was watching his grandchildren grow and sharing in their accomplishments. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Christopher Graham (Tyrra) Reanne Schaber (Keifer), Zakary Leatherdale , Emma Schaber (Braidy), Zane Leatherdale , Isabelle Schaber, Chloe Schaber and Elise Schaber and great grandson Benson Graham. Brian also leaves to mourn his passing his siblings Marlynn Leatherdale, Mary Jane Harper and Les (Monica) Leatherdale, brother-in-law Patrick Morgan, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.

A lifelong Olds resident, Brian was well known for his community involvement, compassion for others and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He was a sportsman, curler, fisherman and marksman with a love for the outdoors. He spent many years enthusiastically involved in his children’s activities including the Olds Marlins Swim Club, Olds Minor Hockey and Olds Air Cadets. Brian and Edna made many close friendships through their involvement in the Square Dance community.

After retiring from the newspaper business, Brian was not ready to enter into true retirement and found a new passion working for Marvin and Koreen at Trackside Sales in Olds. Trackside was the perfect job as it combined his passion of visiting and sales.

Brian loved meeting up with his coffee buddies and heading south for the winter. While in Yuma he enjoyed rekindling old friendships, connecting with family and of course the warm weather and sunshine. Yuma became Brian and Edna’s happy place where they were active dancing, golfing, playing cards, taking in shows and visiting.

Brian was predeceased by his parents Neil and Norma Leatherdale, his brother Billy, his father and mother-in-law Tom and Ruth Smith and sister-in-law Judy Morgan.

A celebration of Brian’s life was held on Tuesday November 15th .  Memorial tributes may be made directly to Olds Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron #185 or a charity of one’s choice on Brian’s behalf.
