It is with heavy hearts the family of Donald Frank Loewen of Olds, AB announces his passing on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the age of 91.
Don was born on the family farm in Torrington, AB on December 29, 1931, to Frank and Marie Loewen. Don had a very warm, considerate, and kind nature, always finding the good in everyone who crossed his path. He had a great sense of humor and kept people amused.
Don has always had a lifelong love for many sports including hockey, but his true passion was for baseball. He was asked on many occasions to play on various ball teams, also standing in for many players unable to play.
After retirement, Don and Alberta spent many weeks travelling to various baseball tournaments in St. George, Utah, Arizona state, California and Western Canada, as well as enjoying many winter months in Needles, California.
Don will be deeply missed by his family and numerous friends. He will be lovingly remembered by his family of 5 children, Rod (Lenora), Myrna Poissant, Lori (Doug) Taylor, Darren (Marilyn), Garth (Lianne); 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Loretta Clement; 1 brother, Garry (Pat) Loewen as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Alberta Margaret (Altie), one son-in-law, John Poissant, one brother, David Loewen, one sister, Doreen Polutnik, brothers-in-law, Terry Polutnik, Brent Clement and one sister-in-law, Lexi Loewen.
A Celebration of Life is being held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 1:30 pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 105, Olds, AB. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Association or Lung Association of Alberta.
