Died Monday, July 29, 2024. Albert Joseph Lucas, age 97. Beloved husband of Dorothy Ellen Lucas (Alstott). Brother to Leonard, predeceased by his sister Ruth (Robert). Proud father of Jan (Jack) of Red Deer, and Joe (Sheona) of Carstairs. Grandfather of Dallas (Kerri), Leia (Craig), John Marshall (Sacha), Katy (Jens), Kyle (Kortney), and R.J. (Larissa). Great grandfather of Lukas, Jacob, London, Rosie, Johnny, Athena, Ayden, Arryk, and Thoryn.

Albert arrived in Canada from Lithuania at the age of 2 and grew up in the James River area. He met Dorothy in 1953 where she worked in a restaurant in Caroline. Smitten by her beauty and cooking skills they began dating and were married two years later.

Their beautiful daughter Janet was born in 1956, and their son Joe followed 3 years later.

Ranching, rodeo, hunting, guiding, fishing, camping, and working as hard as any couple could possibly work were the focus for many decades. Later, Albert and Dorothy were able to spend their winters in Arizona enjoying the fruits of their labour with family and friends from all over Canada and the United States. Nobody could tell a story or joke like Albert and people from all generations were attracted to his vast knowledge of the outdoors, his incredible memory, and his ability to pass along his life experiences.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Sundre and Olds hospitals, and the Seasons Olds Encore for the exceptional care provided to Albert during the old cowboy’s final journey.

A Celebration of Albert's life will take place on Tuesday, August 27, from 2:00-5:00 at the Sundre Rodeo Grounds. There will be open mic time for people to express how Albert touched their lives. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Friends of the Eastern Slopes. P.O. Box 1441, Sundre, AB T0M 1X0
