1935 – 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, auntie, grammie, great grammie and sister, Lorraine Ruth Martin (nee Bowe) who passed away ever so peacefully, with her loving family by her side, at the Sunset Manor, Innisfail, Alberta on Friday, April 1, 2022 at the age of 86 years.

Lorraine was born on December 10, 1935 in Innisfail to proud parents, Reginald and Ruth Bowe. Here, she spent her school years participating in all that she could; as well as working on the family farm, being an active member of the 4-H, and riding her ponies and horses.  She even taught her horse, Major, how to open gates.  When she was older and no longer riding Major, they “tried” to give him to a neighboring farm, but he would just make his way through the gates to get back home. After High School, Lorraine went on to graduate from the Business College in Calgary, Alberta. She excelled in her position as a stenographer and secretary, which took her down many different paths in her professional career.

Lorraine met her one and only, Vern Martin, and they were married on May 14, 1955.  From there, they went on to raise their four children, with life taking them to various places.  They spent twenty-five years in the Okanagan area before returning home to Innisfail in 2002. While in the Okanagan, they embarked on a whole new occupation - orchard farming.  The orchard was a showplace, as Mom had a passion for landscaping and preferred being outdoors tending to her trees and gardens.

Lorraine was an avid sports enthusiast. Curling was her favorite recreational sport; however, she also enjoyed golfing, ice skating, cross country skiing and tennis, just to name a few.  Mom was forever going for walks to be outside in the “fresh air” – she will always be remembered for opening a window and stating “mmm…. smell that earth”.  Another passion of Lorraine’s was volunteering; one could always count on her.

Mom loved and cherished her time with family and friends.  Her enthusiasm in all that she did was an inspiration to all. She was such a bright light.

Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her son, Brent; her daughters, Lois, Carol (Frank), and Bobbi-Lynn (David); and her brother, Russell Bowe (Joyce); as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews.  Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Reginald and Ruth Bowe and her husband of sixty-two years, Vern.
