March 12, 1935 - Leo, Alberta - May 17, 2023 - Okotoks, Alberta
Eleanor Mauchline, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday May 17th at the age of 88 years.
Eleanor was born in Leo, Alberta on March 12, 1935. At the age of five, the Richards family moved to a farm east of Olds, Alberta. Eleanor attended grades one through nine at Coburn one-room school near the farm and attended high school in Olds. She later worked at the Olds Treasury Branch where she met her husband, Allan St. John Mauchline. They married in Olds on Sept. 7, 1957.
After Allan’s passing in 1969, Eleanor returned to the workforce. She gained employment in the oil industry and retired from Norcen Energy in 1995. Eleanor raised her four children on her own during a time when most women were stay-at-home mothers. She learned to become a feisty and fiercely independent woman, right up to her last days. If you wanted mom’s opinion, she would not hesitate in giving it to you.
Mom had a passion for flowers and gardening and had one of the most beautiful yards in the neighborhood. She enjoyed her retirement in her home in Highland Park until 2013 when she sold her home in Calgary to live a quieter life in a condo in Okotoks. It is there where she passed away peacefully in her sleep, just the way she hoped to go.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Cheryl Dymond (Herb), Janice Uhi, Brad Mauchline (Monica) and Mitch Mauchline (Renata). She also leaves behind 10 grand-children and 16 great grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as G.G. (great grandma).
Also survived by her siblings, Lucille Turnquist (John) of Innisfail and Ralph Richards (Jean) of Olds as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Allan, infant daughter Heather, son-in-law Herb, mother Muriel & father William Richards, brother Mel & sister-in-law Edna Richards, sister Aileen & brother- in-law Lawry Dodd, sister-in-law Jean Richards.
She was laid to rest in a private graveside ceremony at Queens Park Cemetery on Friday May 26th.
Eleanor was loved by many family and friends and will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace mom.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held at the Olds Royal Canadian Legion on Tuesday July 11th from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Her family wishes to thank her family doctor (Dr. T. Solola) for his continuing care, and her hairdresser & dear friend, Wendy, who kept her looking beautiful to the end.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eleanor’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
