November 22, 1942 – September 30, 2024

The family of Frederick Lachlan Murray McKinnon (Lachie) is saddened to announce his peaceful passing, at the farm on Monday, September 30, 2024 at the age of 81.  Lachie was born on November 22, 1942 and spent his entire life living in the Water Valley area. Growing up, he worked for the family business, but then decided to try things on his own with the love of his life, Donna.  Together they built a life in the country, continuously expanding their beef and hay operation.

He will be forever loved and remembered by his wife, Donna (Walroth) of fifty-seven years. In addition to Donna, Lachie is survived by his two sons, Lance (Holly & his 2 sons) and Laird (Alison & daughters - Jasmine and Sienna); sister-in-law, Darlene Speager;  and two brothers, Ralph and Donald (Marjorie).

Although farming was a full time job and his first love, he also took on a second job working at the Harmattan Gas Plant where he worked for 30 years.  Lachie and Donna retired from farming on Lachie’s 69th birthday.

Lachie was a member of the Crossfield Masonic Lodge. He loved tinkering with his model trains, spending time with family and traveling all around the world during his retirement.  For 20 years he & Donna went on numerous trips, visiting well over 42 countries. Iceland was by far his most favorite place to visit.

In 2021 Lachie was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkin Lymphoma) and in 2023 was cured of the Cancer after a hard fought battle.

Lachie was cremated, and there will not be a funeral service at his request.  A private family burial service at the Crossfield Cemetery will be held in 2025 so that the family can say a final farewell. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society. Messages of condolence for the family may be left at www.prairierosefunerals.ca
