Betty Darlene McNabb (nee Schmick), longtime resident of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday July 4, 2023 at 79 years young.

She was born in Innisfail, Alberta, the last of five girls to John and Clara Schmick and spent many of her early years on a farm east of Carstairs in the Midway District. She graduated from Carstairs High School in 1962 and moved to Calgary where she began a long 40 plus year career with the Bank of Montreal.  Her working career included memorable stints at the BMO Stock Yard branch, TransCanada Mall Branch, Marlborough Mall Branch and finally at the Sunridge Mall branch in NE Calgary where she retired in 2009.

It was while working as a Customer Service Representative that her true dedication, purpose and love for people shone through. She talked about the joy that her customers brought to her and on many days off, she was often times approached by individuals who told her how she was appreciated and missed. Almost unheard of, she was recognized by customers over 10 years after she had retired. She left a truly inspiring legacy of her commitment, love and compassion for people. She was such a classy Lady and beautifully stunning inside and out and her warm smile made her a bright light to everyone who came to know her.

She will be missed by family and friends and especially her husband of 52 years, Gerry as well as sons, Trevor (Michelle) and Jarett (fiance Jenn).

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Clara Schmick as well as her siblings, Edna Dolphin, Florence McKay, Marjorie Anderson and Shirley Mckinnon.

At the request of family, there will not be a service, however a Celebration of Betty’s Life will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Half Century Club, 1139 Osler Street in Carstairs, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society, Alzheimer Society or the Arthritis Society of your choice.
