The family of Cameron McNabb announce his passing on March 26, 2022 at the age of 99.
Cameron was born in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba to William and Edith McNabb December 12, 1922. Growing up he worked the family farm with his parents and 13 siblings. In 1941 he enlisted with XII Manitoba Dragoons and trained in the 18th Armored Car Regiment at Virden, Manitoba. More training was received in England before his regiment was deployed to Normandy, France and landed D-Day + 30 days. After the war he returned to Manitoba and started work at the Beaver Lake Fish Plant. Flin Flon, Manitoba where he met his future wife Mary Pete, they married November 16, 1946, in June of 1947 Cameron started work at the Hudson’s Bay Mining and Smelting Co. in Flin Flon, Manitoba, working under ground as a mucker, timberman and repairman till 1956.
The family then moved to Edmonton, Alberta where Cameron apprenticed as a millwright for Phoenix Tube and Pipe. In 1959 Cameron received his journeyman millwright certificate and then worked for Catalytic Construction at the Canadian Oil Refinery at Bowden, Alberta and when Shell Canada bought the plant from Canadian Oil in 1962, he continued to work there until his retirement.
Cameron enjoyed fishing and often went to northern Manitoba to refine his craft, also enjoying wood working; building birdhouses, flower pots, custom work benches and many projects friends asked him to craft. Being an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan, many a time was spent watching game’s and when his vision became a hindrance he would still listen to the games.
Cameron is remembered by his loving wife of 76 years Mary; son Bill, daughter Maxine and four siblings.
Predeceased by his parents William and Edith as well a nine brothers and sisters.
At Cameron’s wishes no services will be held.
