It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Katie on October 6, 2023, at the age of 25.
Katie was born on January 22, 1998, in Olds, AB. Katie spent her formative years in Didsbury attending Ross Ford Elementary and West Glen Middle schools. She later attended high school in Olds and graduated through the Outreach program in Olds. Katie attended Olds College in 2018 taking the Veterinary Technical Assistant Program.
In October of 2012 we moved to the farm where she could keep her beloved horse, Bear. She spent hours riding and practicing her barrel patterns. She participated in numerous rodeos and jackpots throughout the years. She met and formed many friendships with “horse people”.
Katie worked numerous jobs in the service industry until she decided to take her security guard certificate. She worked for Paladin Security for two years. Katie finally found her niche working at Pioneer Veterinary Clinic in Sundre. She loved all animals big and small. Katie had recently started going out on farm calls. She was excited to be learning new things. Katie had recently helped deliver a foal, she was bursting at the seams by the time she got home to tell me. Although Katie’s time at Pioneer was short, she loved and appreciated all her co-workers.
Katie enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including horse back riding, kayaking, snowmobiling and quadding. Katie had recently purchased her own quad to go out with her brother and friends. Her oldest brother had recently moved back to the area to spend more time with the family. Katie spent numerous happy occasions visiting with him and his lady. Katie was a beautiful soul and had a heart of gold. She touched the lives of so many people.
Katie is survived by her mother Nancy and stepfather Bruce Soederhuysen, her father Shayne McTavish and aunt Shannon McTavish, her brother Travis McTavish and his lady friend Clay-Dee Nimo, her brother Tyler and nephew Jaxon McTavish, aunts & uncles Sandi and Tim Anderson & Barb and Daryl Lowey, cousins Calvin Anderson, Audrey Cawthorpe, Brittany Gebers, Shayline and Carolynne, and by numerous friends, Aunts, Uncles and second cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday October 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Olds, Alberta. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alberta SPCA, 17904 118 Ave. NW, Edmonton T5S 2W3. Westview Funeral Services, Olds, entrusted with arrangements. 403-556-6576
