December 21, 1933 – December 12, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Morrison. Murray passed away on Saturday, December 12th, just shy of his 87th birthday. He was at his home in the West End of Vancouver with his beautiful wife Georgina.
Murray was the youngest son of Gilbert and Ruby Morrison (nee Hazel) and is predeceased by his 3 brothers (Em, Vic and Jack). He grew up in Olds, Alberta and led a very active life. He played ice hockey in the Central Alberta Hockey League with the Olds Elks, the Western Canada Junior Hockey League with the Edmonton Oil Kings and travelled out east to try out with the Detroit Red Wings. Murray was also a keen golfer, curler, skier, cyclist, triathlete, swimmer, carpenter, gardener, bridge player, reader and an active Freemason and Shriner.
Murray joined the RCMP in 1955 and was initially posted to Ottawa before being transferred to British Columbia (Oliver, Golden, Ashcroft, Chilliwack and Terrace). He progressed up through the ranks and after a 23-year career retired as a Senior Staff Sergeant.
Murray will be sadly missed by his high school sweetheart Georgina Morrison (nee Allan), 4 children (Michael, Kelly, Douglas and Kendall), 9 grandchildren (Alandra, Riley, Angus, Kyle, Lane, Blaire, Talulah, Monica, and Felix) and his first great granddaughter (Raegan).
Murray will be remembered by his family and many friends as a true gentleman anda loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His body will be cremated and his ashes will be held until a family service can be safely organised. In lieu of flowers, an In Memory Donation can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children - Canada (www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org).
