December 19, 1957 - April 27, 2024
Wendy was born on December 19, 1957 to Harold and Frances Packer. She was the seventh of eleven children. Wendy grew up at McDougal Flats in a home filled with love and no shortage of playmates. Wendy started school in Sundre in 1963 where she met many lifelong friends. In high school Wendy was active in many activities including cheer leading and candy striping which inspired her love for taking care of people, especially seniors. Wendy graduated high school in 1975 and enroled in the Licensed Practical Nurse Program and went on to nurse in the Sundre and Canmore hospitals.
Unfortunately, her nursing career was cut short by a back injury and eventually surgery. In 1990 Wendy met the love of her life Gregg Neilson. They were married on September 2, 1995. They bought their home in 1996 and built a beautiful life together with her precious dog Benny by her side and later Piper. Wendy loved animals especially dogs and birds. Her love for nature took them to the mountains often and every September Wendy and Gregg looked forward to their special Anniversary holiday.
Wendy loved Christmas and their home at Christmas was magical especially the Christmas village, which her and Gregg spent many hours putting up every single year.
In 2012 Wendy took a return-to-work course which led to her position at the Sundre Seniors Lodge. She loved her job, and they loved her. Sadly, Wendy became ill in late 2019 and was never able to return to her work.
Wendy and Gregg were able to travel to New Zealand, Mexico and Cuba making many happy memories with Family. They also enjoyed being at their acreage on the hill taking in the tranquility and beauty. Family was everything to Wendy and she was fiercely protective of those she loved. She will be forever missed by her loving husband Gregg who did absolutely everything to make her final years comfortable as possible. She will always remain in the hearts of her siblings Donna (Tony) Gee, Jim (Gwenda) Packer, Tom (Kay) Packer, Fran (Bob) Wright, Dan (Judy) Packer, Darryl (Julie) Packer, Bob (Jackie) Packer, Stephen Packer, Teresa Gleeson and sister-in-law Julie Van Ember along with numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Wendy was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Frances Packer and her brother Donny.
