1933 – 2024
Mrs. Patricia A. Newman passed away peacefully at Innisfail, Alberta on Thursday, August 15 with her daughters at her side. She was 90 years young.
Pat Dickson was born in 1933 in Brandon, Manitoba and married Bob Newman in 1953, a marriage that lasted sixty-five years. Pat was predeceased by Bob in 2019. Pat’s much-loved daughters are Joanne (Lionel) Veldkamp, Leah Newman, and Stephanie Streit. She loved the company of her grandchildren Ryan (Alison) Veldkamp, Derek (Desiree) Veldkamp Cameron (Dave) Veldkamp and Chloe Streit. Pat took joy in her two great- grandchildren, Paisley and Gibson Veldkamp.
Pat had many dear friends, and she treasured spending time with them. There were lots of coffee visits, lunch dates, fun parties and crazy shenanigans enjoyed over the years. Pat and Bob met in Brandon and were childhood friends that became teenage sweethearts. After their marriage they were transferred to Saskatoon, Montreal, Grande Prairie, and Red Deer before they purchased the Ford dealership in Innisfail in 1966.
During her lifetime Pat taught sewing for Alberta Agriculture in various community halls in the area, was a realtor and co-owner of Sun Country Realty, a town councillor, and Innisfail’s Mayor for two plus terms. Pat was an active member of the Innisfail community through her girl’s extracurricular activities and various organizations. Through the years she also sat on several boards and committees. Pat was honored to be named Innisfail’s Citizen of the Year in 1999.
Pat loved to travel and with Bob they visited sixty-two countries, some more than once. She also loved art, sewing, cooking, baking, and entertaining family and friends.
A Celebration of Pat’s life will be held at a later date.
