It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Kay Nielson. She left us peacefully on Friday, April 26th, 2024 at the age of 94 years at the Senior Care Home in Innisfail.
Catherine Alexandra was born April 16, 1930 to Clara and Joseph Pernitsky in Wilkie Sask. Kay's parents travelled from Russia with their two young daughters, Cecilia and Bernilda and settled on a homestead close to Wilkie. After their dad's death in 1962, Len bought a house in Olds, and Len, Kay, Ray and Angie lived there with their mother.
Kay opened a hairdressing salon in Olds. This is where she met Dan, the love of her life. They were married on July 31, 1965 and enjoyed 58 very happy years together. Throughout their married life they were caregivers to both their mothers, living close by and hosting many family dinners. Kay loved to sew and made many of her own clothes. As a couple, they loved to travel and had many wonderful holidays.
She is survived by her husband Dan, brothers; Len Pernitsky, John (Mary) Pernitsky, Ray (Esther) Pernitsky, and sister, Angeline Pernitsky. Also brother-in-law Gilbert (Linda) Nielsen, sister-in-taw Sandra Johnson and her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Clara and Joseph Pernitsky, her sisters; Cecilia McLenaghan, Clara Radak, Bernitda Hooey, and her brother Joe Pernitsky.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Senior Care Home in Innisfait for the excellent care they provided Kay in her final years,
Kay was a loving wife, a caring sister, a wonderful aunt and a kind and thoughtful friend. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
