May 31, 1952 – January 23, 2024

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news that Trudy passed away at the Brooks Hospital after a fiercely fought battle with cancer.  Ralph and Jean Richards were the proud parents of their second daughter, Trudy Lynn.

Trudy had many special memories about growing up on the farm east of Olds.  After high school graduation and while attending Olds College she met the love of her life, Allan Patterson.  They had a marriage that was admired by many and served as an example to all.

They raised three daughters, Trisha, Krista and Tera.  Trudy was born to be a mom, she was a natural and loved everything about it.  The relationship she had with each of her adult daughters was close, comforting and treasured. Trudy always said she was gifted the best son-in-laws:  Warren Nielsen, Ben Payne and Luke McDonald.  If you thought she loved being a mom, being a grandma was the highlight of her life.  The love and connection between Trudy and Keagan, Madi, Jayda and Makenna was a joy to see.

After marriage, Trudy and Allan settled in Rolling Hills.  Trudy soon became an active and valued community member.  She loved her work in the social services area and made lasting connections.  In 2016 they purchased an acreage west of Brooks.

Trudy maintained a close relationship with her Olds family. She will be greatly missed by Terri and Sandy Loree of Olds, Debra Hoffmann and Dan Beaudry of Hanna, Gary and Kathy Richards of Olds, Kelly and Sand Richards of Olds and aunt Lucille and John Turnquist of Innisfail. She will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Trudy’s life will be held at the Rolling Hills Hall on Wednesday January 31 at 2:00 p.m.  There will be a live feed and recording available for two weeks following the service on the Smith Funeral Home website:  www.sfh.ca
