October 16, 1930 - August 3, 2023
Larry Robertson of Dog Pound, Alberta has passed away at the age of 92 years.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Florence, and lovingly remembered by his children and their families; Donna (Dave) Fife, Mervin (Donna) Robertson, Gail (Gerry) Neilon, Joan (Rob) Kennedy, Carole (Mark) Beauliua; his sister, Romelda Judd; brother, Jack Robertson; and sister, Gloria Bayne. He was predeceased by his father, Jim; mother, Lyla; bothers, Loy and Leon; and sister, Joyce Leask.
Larry was very proud of the fact that, with the exception of the last three weeks before his passing, he lived his whole life on the farm where he was born. This was accomplished with the support of his daughter Carole and her family in later years.
Growing up, he took part in the family’s farm work, having to quit school after finishing grade eight to help out when his brother Loy was in the war and his dad was having health problems.
He went on to buy the land from his dad in order to continue to farm it and raise his own family. He grew grain and hay and raised purebred Herefords. When he decided the purebred business wasn’t for him, he started a commercial herd. Over the years, he milked cows and raised pigs, chickens, beef and vegetables to feed the family.
He loved to be outdoors, and enjoyed pitching and later coaching for Dog Pound in the local baseball league. He also spent time hunting, fishing, trapping and rodeoing. In retirement, he took up growing tomatoes and cucumbers in his greenhouse, woodworking and golfing.
During his last few weeks on earth, Dad received so much wonderful care from the staff at both the Peter Lougheed Centre and Bethany Didsbury and was very grateful, as is his family.
There will be a celebration of Larry’s life held at the Cremona Community Hall on Friday, August 11th at 2:00pm.
