With many great memories, we say goodbye to our adored husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Edgar Sherwin Robinson.
Edgar was the middle child born to Kit and Janet and narrowly missed being a Leap Year Baby. His great-grandparents homesteaded on the Cottonwood Road west of Innisfail, Alberta in 1896, and Edgar got to live his entire life on that land until moving to the Rosefield Centre, Innisfail, Alberta in 2021.
He met Elizabeth Manuel at the Little Red Deer School and made undoubtedly the smartest decision of his life when he married her in 1956. Thus began their busy life of running a mixed farming operation. In 1964 when their fourth child was a baby, Edgar somehow decided he wanted to become a calf roper, even though he had barely ridden a horse as an adult. In 1968 he built one of the first indoor roping arenas in the province; cowboys from far and wide came to practice there. Perhaps his proudest moment was when he qualified for the Canadian Finals Rodeo with his son, Larry, in 1975 and 1979.
Then, in 1982 at age of 46, he decided that roping and tying a calf was taking longer than it used to. Overnight, he completely shifted gears to becoming the best golfer he could be. For the next thirty-six years, when not busy farming, he worked on his golf swing at the Innisfail Golf Course in the summer and at Borrego Springs and Palm Springs courses in the winter. Edgar made new friends his whole life while hanging onto the old ones.
The traits that were important to him were integrity, ambition and never spending long feeling sorry for yourself. Edgar will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-six years, Elizabeth, their four children, Larry Robinson (Darlene), Joan Robinson (Rob Seal), Brenda Bowness (Dennis) and Bev Bovey (Jake), their thirteen grandchildren, Kirk (Nikki), Ben (Taylor), Maria, Renee, Kit, Alexandra (Dave), Francesca (Arun), Emery, Bryce (Kelsey), Eliza (Gabe), Justayne (Derek), Isaac (Brittany), Reegan, and their nine sweet great-grandchildren, Vienne, Zayne, Boston, Ivy, Advik, Sloan, Aravella, Theodore and Brynn. His sister, Marian Hawkins (Ron), his brother, Bruce Robinson (Carol), his brother-in-law, Roy Graham, his cousins, Glen Robinson (Vicki) and Pat Lyndon (John) and their families also have great memories of fun times together.
The family is grateful to the Rosefield Centre staff for making Edgar’s transfer to heaven a bit easier for us. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 4915 - 52 Street, Innisfail, Alberta on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Due to limited seating at the Church, overflow guests will be directed to the Tournament House at the Innisfail Golf Club, 6080 Lakewood Drive, Innisfail, Alberta, where the Funeral Service will be Live Streamed. A Reception will be held at the Tournament House following the Funeral Service.
