Didsbury Alberta, Vernon BC

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of our dear Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle and great friend. Dan passed peacefully in his home in Vernon BC on November 24th at age of 92. Dan was born near Didsbury Alberta and farmed in the Rugby area as well as working for Home Oil (South Elkton plant) until he retired and moved to Vernon BC in 1992. He and Delores (Care) were very actively involved with the Elkton Curling Club as well as the Fallen Timber Community Association and had an endless list of friends and family both in Alberta and in Vernon as well.

Dan enjoyed the past 14 years at the Independent Living Community of Heron Grove in Vernon. There he was an active part of the Merry Musicmakers, and various seasonal celebrations and special events. He loved his home and community of Heron Grove and will be sorely missed by the residents and staff alike. He could always be called upon to help other residents with their small repair tasks. He loved to help people whenever he was needed. You could always count on being the recipient of Dads humour and teasing, but only if you could dish it out to him as well. He loved to be a tease and to be teased as well. He looked forward to visits by both family and friends and hopefully a game of crib or two!

Dan will be missed everyday by his son and daughter in law Corey and Manon Care, Granddaughter Charlotte, Great Grandsons Cameron, Jackson and William as well as Daryl and Irene Boettger who were a large part of his life and all of his numerous friends and acquaintances over the years. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Dan was predeceased by his wife Delores (Care), Father Dan Russell, Mother Marguerite (Murphy), Sisters Eula (Byrt) (Peterson), Laura (Towle), Violet (Evans), Mildred (Schank), Brothers Arnold, Harold, Milton and Leonard.

There will be a small Memorial Service held at Good Samaritan Heron Grove for the residents and immediate family on December 16th at 10:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life at the home of Corey and Manon Care beginning at 3:00 PM. Internment to be held in late April at the Mountain View Cemetery in Didsbury Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that friends and family contribute to your local Food Bank in Dan’s name.
