1928 - 2022
Evie Annie Scott of Kneehill Valley, Alberta passed away in Red Deer on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the age of 93 years.
Evie was born in Three Hills, Alberta on August 2, 1928 to Albert and Evie Trentham. She grew up on a farm with her six siblings. Before her marriage, Evie studied Home Economics at SAIT. She had a tailoring business in Calgary, until she married George Neville Scott on August 1, 1953. Evie loved farm life, and worked hard raising four kids, growing bountiful vegetable and flower gardens, and leading the 4-H Sewing Club. She was cooking meals for harvest until she was 87 years old.
After having a stroke in June 2020, Evie’s goal was to return home to spend more time with family. Between hospital stays in Red Deer and Innisfail, Evie managed to stay on the farm until fall 2021. A proud Albertan and Canadian, Evie also stayed true to her ancestral English roots with her daily timeouts for tea and toast, as well as her admiration for the Queen. Christmas festivities needed to pause every year, while she tuned into the Queen’s annual message. Evie was curious about the world and compassionate towards others. She embraced causes such as volunteering for the local food bank and ‘Ten Days for World Development’, for which she travelled to Mexico in 1985.
Family and friends share memories of Evie’s quick wit, sense of humour, deep and informed interest in the world around her, and her determined spirit. Evie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Phillip (Sharon), Susan (Larry), Cathie (John), and George; her grandchildren, Kristen (Matt), John (Andrea), Gwyneth (Tony), Brendan (Elisabeth), Evelyn and David; and her great grandchildren, Harlow and Theo will cherish her memory. She will also be remembered fondly by her many nieces and nephews.
Evie was predeceased by her husband, her siblings and her brothers and sisters-in-law.
A Public Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
