Posted

March 9, 1939 - November 6, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of June Scott announce her passing at the age of 84, on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Didsbury Hospital.

June will be lovingly remembered by her son, Richard (Donna); daughter, Dawn (Gregg); grandson, Wesley; her sister, Carol; and family in the UK. June was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tom; son, Anthony; sister, Moira; and parents Maude and Dick Chapman.

June was born March 9, 1939, in Norwich, England, to parents Maude and Richard (Dick) Chapman. While living in a small village in Barton Turf, the family grew to include 3 lovely daughters, June, Moira, and Carol. After primary school, North Walsham Grammar School, and Wymondham College, June then went on to study nursing at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, which reflected her caring spirit for others.

At 21 years of age, June immigrated to Canada, to start a new life that included having three children, Richard, Anthony (d.) and Dawn, with June’s then spouse, Graham Barnard.  June embraced the adventurous western frontier life in Water Valley and Cremona area as a farming family.  She was very involved in numerous social functions and community activities, including her treasured curling.  When her children were older, June opened the Cremona Flowers & Coffee Corner store, in partnership with her dear friend Vera Holbrook.  June later remarried, to Tom Scott, and they lovingly travelled together across much of North America, while working in the trucking industry. After retiring, they continued to travel the open roads in their motorhome, enjoying the scenery and serenity. After Tom passed in 1999, June become an avid supporter of several charities by knitting over 10,000 toques for people in need. June will also be fondly remembered for her many gifts of baked treats and homemade jams. June remained in the family farmhouse until her final days, enjoying the multitude of birds and wildlife that were her frequent visitors and where she could revel in the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains out her front window.

June’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the friends and neighbors who called or stopped in to visit and help out; your moments of care were fondly remembered by June long after the visit ended. A special thank you to Donna, for her kindness and friendship with Mom over the years. Additionally, the family is deeply appreciative of the tremendous care and kindness of the Didsbury Home Care Team, who contributed to the enjoyment of June’s life at home over the last 2 years.  The compassion and excellent support was continued on by the incredible Didsbury Hospital inpatient staff, who enriched June’s last days.

Mom, you were strong, courageous, and embraced life.  You will be missed and cherished forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2024; June’s ashes will be placed alongside her husband, Tom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation / AIWC
