1945 - 2024

Daryl Mary Smith was born August 14, 1945, in Northern England. the daughter of Audrey and Harry Douthwaite, the younger sister of Verity and the eventual older sister of Brian.

In 1964 Daryl married Michael (Mike) Smith and they went on to have three children, Stephen (Steve), Jacqueline (Jacqui) and Paul. In 1973 the young Smith family took the bold step of moving to Canada, first settling in the Lethbridge area and then moving to Sundre, Alberta a short time later. This would be her home for many years.

Daryl had many interesting jobs during her time in Sundre, working as a newspaper reporter, real estate agent, nutritionist, home care worker and more. She proudly served  Sundre FCSS for several years.

Throughout her life she was an avid writer, self publishing three books of poetry and prose and was an integral part of the book “The Little Town That Could” about the history of Sundre, through the eyes of its pioneering families.

Daryl always longed to live by the ocean, and realized that dream when she moved to Northern New Brunswick in 2009, living there until returning to Alberta in 2021.

She will be remembered as an intelligent, creative and independent spirit who dearly loved her family, her pets (and there were many), nature, writing and photography. In addition to Mike, Daryl leaves behind a brother, sister, three children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
